Hey guys,
well, in case you haven't noticed: it's english-time!
Why? Oh, first of all I never need a reason to use the most beautiful language I'm capable of, second - I was just reading Audrey Niffenegger's "The Time Travler's Wife" and since N. started talking to me in english last week, I felt the desire to write an english blog.
Todays topic? Good question... have nothing in mind yet, but it won't take the perfect idea long to come. Trust me.... and here it comes! Let's talk about - sorry, let ME talk about the performance I saw some days ago - Jesus Christ Superstar.
It was beautiful. Stunning. I was totally amazed.
It's a pity that I have no clue who those guys perfoming were - they neither announced a group nor names, but they were good. Saying it like that makes it sound as if they were acceptable, at their bests nice, but I have to say it like that, because - well, they weren't all perfect.
I personally LOVED the guy who played Judas - his voice, the way he looked, the way he acted - awesome. I'll come back to this part later... (-;
Jesus was... nice. He wasn't perfect, but, to be honest, who is? (besides Judas^^)
Well, Jesus had a nice voice too, and at the end he became brilliant. His fight with Judas was absolutely stunning. I was probably looking like a fish, watching it, because my mouth just wouldn't close... *blush*
Whom I was totally disappointed in was Maria Magdalena. She had the dubious gift to totally ruin my beloved "I don't know how to love him".
But then again, considering the rest of the crew, it was just amazing. The way they turned this simple, empty stage into this tragic, intoxicating story of love, trust and fear - it was stunning. I have no words.
I admit that I'm helplessly in love with "Jesus Christ Superstar", there's nothing more beautiful than those songs and the story they tell.
I'm no big christian and you can hunt me with church-visits, but i do have my believes and i just admire the story Tim Rice and Andrew L. Webber tell.
Why? Because, for me, it's one of the world's most tragic, most powerful examples of an endless friendship and it includes a story of selflessness, trust and fear that, in my opinion, finds no equal in modern theater productions.
In my eyes Judas and Jesus were bounded at each other magically - they loved each other, if it was friendship or more, doesn't matter. When Jesus came to earth he believed in his own plan, he believed in god. Judas did too.
And then it all started to fall. Jesus was humanised. He suddenly had fears, he wasn't so sure about everything anymore and at most he was afraid of diing.
Everyone around him began praising him as if he was god himself, and he didn't stop them, because he had lost the right way.
And Judas realized. He saw everything they believed him, the plan of his beloved friend, he say everything they fought for fall apart - he confronted Jesus, but he wouldn't listen. Jesus' mind was filled with fear and other human feelings, he was too pleased with everyone loving, praising him and he did turn his back on Judas - the only one who had really understood, the only one who had always believed in him.
And - even though he hated himself for doing so - Judas knew, he had to put an end to this. Because if he wouldn't have stoped it then, everything would have gotten out of control and Jesus wouldn't have been able to fullfill his destiny any more. And so Judas betrayed Jesus, told the soldiers where to find him. Then he killed himself.
Isn't that tragic? Isn't it dramatically wonderful?
I just love this rock opera!
Love & huggles
J
Ps.: Yes, i do like the thought of Jesus and Judas having something going on with each other, mostly because of what it would mean to the modern christian church... :D
